This page created 21st November 2003397 MA Chesham Broadway - Cholesbury Common - Champneys - Wigginton - Tring (LT Garage) 397 TG Tring (LT Garage) - Wigginton Strangely, the 397 was an Amersham garage route, although it did not go to Amersham, and not a Tring one, although it terminated at the garage there. Perhaps it was because Amersham was a Cub shed and Tring was not. Anyway, the GSS allocation ousted the Cubs at Amersham in December 1953, - and Tring acquired a GS for their 387 in January 1954.
The route passed northwards through Chesham, rubbing sholders briefly with the RLHs on the 336,
then continued north up Chesham Vale, climbing steadily up past Hawridge onto the expanse of Cholesbury Common.
Some buses turned here, slightly short of Cholesbury Village, which was off-route,
by turning round the triangle at the junction with the Tring road.
The route to Tring made the turn here, and passed north through delightful countryside,
passing Champneys (later an exclusive health resort) to Wigginton. From there it descended into Tring,
where it used the forecourt of the L.T. garage as its terminus.
GS62 halts at the bus stop on Cholesbury Common, 26th October 2003.GS2 at Tring on 26th October 2003. GS13 rounds the corner from Tring at Cholesbury Common on the same day.393 398
