Part Four: 417: Windsor to Langley Village (RMC1476)

The next bus along to Windsor Bus Station after RLH48 was RMC1476. It was heading for Langley Village, via Slough.

I said hello to Mike and Clive on the Routemaster coach, and found that the front nearside bonnet seat was vacant. We set off, back through the town of Windsor. Greenline RT3491 came the other way on a 441 for Old Windsor. A little further on, in the tight squeeze past the Castle, we met open-top Atlantean STK125T (ex Plymouth Citybus and tour operators), followed immediately by RM1 on the 475.

The parade continued: open-topped City Sightseeing Metrobus WLT428 was plying its normal trade, while RML2666 was heading for the bus station with another 441. Further down in the town we passed White Bus DAF/Optare Delta S158JUA heading towards Windsor Great Park (a preorogative still granted just to this company).

On our way out of town we met RT2177 wearing route 81 blinds as it headed for Windsor, a reminder of the days when Central Buses did reach Windsor via Slough. Out on the by-pass we passed another red RT, this time last-in-service RT624 on a Country Area route 457 service to windsor from Uxbridge.

Back at Slough we circled round the roundabout just as RLH48 was leaving for Amersham, and pulled in to the stop behind RTL139. We made our way into the cavernous bus station, and pulled up behind a Thames Valley Bristol. RM216 promptly slid into the intervening space on its way to Burnham Beeches. We were heading on out to Langley Village, so our stay in the bus station was brief.

RM1 arrived as we were about to pull away, and pulled in ahead of us to load for its continuing journey to Uxbridge. We pulled out, and as we exited from the bus station went in front of GS34, arriving back from Burnham Beeches on the 442.

As we headed east from Slough we passed one of London United's Plaxton Presidents (VP106), a reminder that the 81 still does reach Slough.

We made our way into Langley Village. There was some discussion as to whether it was worth making a trip to the Trading Estate as the booked 484, or whether to return to Slough as a terminating 417. I cannot remember what they decided. Either way, we set off again, soon rejoining the Great West Road. On our way into Slough we passed another of the First Berkshire Greenline Scanias on the 702.

Now, what could I do in the remaining hour of activities?...
