Hertford & Stevenage Running DaySunday June 2nd 2002Prepared by Ian Smith, 17th June 2002Part 2: Before Breakfast at HertfordBefore we could have breakfast in the morning the buses needed checking and bringing into Hertford. They drivers had left before me, and I sauntered along towards Fairfax Road in the delightful early morning sunshine. An early GreenLine 724 slid past, heading for Heathrow Airport. It was one of Arriva's DAF/Plaxtons, 3448.I found the buses and crews. There were GS2, RF6769, GS62 and RF633. There was blue smoke as cold engines coughed into activity. RF side panels opened for a top-up of engine oil. GS bonnets opened too. GS62 had suffered a touch of clutch slip on the run-in the day before, and the fault was traced to diesel contamination from a weeping injector coupling. That was rectified, and the GS taken for a wash. Then it was off to a deserted Hertford Bus Station, where the buses were parked while we went for breakfast.
