Hertford & Stevenage Running DaySunday June 2nd 2002Prepared by Ian Smith, 17th June 2002Part 4: 327: Hertford - Nazeing GateI travelled round to the garage with RT113, and made the acquaintance of the crew, who made me very welcome. At the "garage" there was plenty to see:
But soon it was time to take RT113 back to the bus-station for the 1115 departure: the first 2RT2 on the 327 since 31st August 1957. Understandably it loaded well, despite the run coinciding with England's first World Cup Finals match against Sweden. We were away on time, and enjoyed the 2RT2 sounds as we trundled along to Ware. We stopped at the level crossing stop, and picked up a passenger for the rest of the round trip. Another bus-stop near Hoddesdon gave an opportunity for a countryside photo-stop. But soon we were turning left off the main road towards Broxbourne Station. We crossed the line, and wiggled down to cross the various bridges across the Lee Valley. We passed through Nazeingbury, and climbed the long hill up to Nazeing Wood Common. With a long queue of cars behind, RT113 pulled into the terminus road, unloaded, then had to do a reverse three point turn to end up pointing the right way beside the pond.
Then it was time to load up again, and set off on the long road back to Hertford. We swooped down into the Lea Valley, and stopped at Broxbourne Station to drop off several passengers. Then it was turn right up the old main road through Hoddesdon. We passed RF269 heading south to Wormley on a 715 Greenline short-working. A pause at Ware level crossing to set down, then we were rumbling into Hertford. An hour and three-quarters had disappeared unbelievably quickly, but very pleasurably thanks to Tony Beard and the Moore family on board RT113. (and England had drawn with Sweden).
