GS32 at Knockholt Pound

Knockholt Pound Running Day

Sunday July 10th 2005

Part 4: Knockholt Garage

GS1 had arrived at the Three Horseshoes from its trip via Cudham, and Leyland National SNC168 had arrived too. It was time for me to take a short break. The National pulled away, so I went over to GS1 and hitched a lift to the day's temporary bus garage, just down the hill from Knockholt Pound. This was courtesy of Paul Bowen, a local haulier and lorry preservationist.

The yard was a hive of activity, with buses continually coming and going as they came off duty for a lunch break and then returned. RT1702 came in after another run to Bromley Garage and back, and reverse turned into the parking line. Red RF406 was just about to leave for a turn on the 431.

RP21 was at the end of the line. It would soon go out towards Sevenoaks to position for a 705 run via Westerham and Biggin Hill. Next in the line-up were the two red RTs, RT3871 from Blue Triangle, and RT1702 from Catford Garage.

More green buses came in to turn: RF679, GS64, then GS2. The two GSs joined GS15 and GS32 in the line-up: four of the eight GSs in action today.

But time was up. I was going out again on GS32, so I joined John Clarke and we set off back to the Three Horseshoes.
