Hertford bus-station was as hectic as it usually is on Running Days. Buses were coming and going in all directions. RP21 was busy turning round the tight loop at the riverside end, while RF48 was loading for a trip out on the 384 to Benington Green. BN61 had been to Cuffley on the 308 and was unloading.
RT3148 had arrived on a 390 working, and after unloading headed off for London Road, and red RF406 arrived back from Knebworth Station on a 329.
RML2613 also came in off yet another trip from Stevenage on the 390, and pulled in to park in front of RT3254 and the Falcon Coaches Tiger after unloading. Meanwhile GS64 had loaded up for its turn on the 393 to Hertford Heath, and duly set off.
Then came in a surprise for me: Jersey Albion No77. The elderly single decker was working turns on the 395, between Hertford and Ware (Fanshawe Crescent).
RF269 came in on a 308A service, and loaded up between RT604 and RF406. The NBC-liveried RT had been out on the 341 between Hatfield and Hertford. The Green Line RF departed, and its spot was promptly filled by Golden Boy's Dart SLF working on the present day 395 (the old 395A) to and from Ware.
RF406, having come in as a 329, was now departing with another good load on the 308 to Cuffley. Saunders-bodied RT3062 paused to change blinds, from 341 to 331 for the run to Standon Station and back.
It turned out that the service I had been waiting for, GS62 on the 333 to Chapmore End, was not going to run, as the flexible exhaust coupling on the GS was coming adrift. I went to find another cup of tea.
When I emerged from the cafe RF4 was sitting across the way, and a Trustline Evolution was loading for the 311. Meanwhile BN61 was preparing to go out again, this time as an extra 350 to Widford. GS60 was back from Bulls Green on the 329.
I was asked if I would navigate for Peter Penfold on RF4, on a 393 trip to Hertford Heath. He was heading first to the London Road "garage", so I went with him...
