TD95 throbbed quietly in Albion Street. There was something of a mad scramble to secure seats. I obtained one near the front - not the single seat immediately behind the driver, introduced instead of a double to permit the conductor to stand comfortably at the front of the bus. But my seat allowed me to look out over the driver's shoulder, or occasionally reach the steps for an over-the-bonnet view. We soon set off, passing RF453 at the end of the road, which would form the next 236 behind ours. A little further on we met one of the narrow Dart/Caetanos of CTPlus, DCS2, working the 394 to Homerton Hospital.
We turned left onto Mare Street, then right into Well Street, where we passed RF503, and then along Cassland Road to head for Hackney Wick.
We paused at Hackney Wick, but already being full had to leave the (small) queue behind. We passed another 236, this time a Dart/Marshall (DML41312) as we wriggled through the complexities of Hackney Wick. A little further on, as we headed for Leyton, we met SMS369 hurrying the other way on another reproduction 236.
As we came up to Leyton Green we saw RT190 just busy pulling out from in front of Leyton Garage, to head out on the 38A.
We pulled round the triangular green, ignored the stance in front of the garage, and shot off down the road to the next stop! I alighted there, and took some quick photos before the elderly bus moved off again on its return journey to Dalston. A passing Arriva Dart provided a nice comparison of fifty years of rear end evolution in bus design.
I went off to look at what was happening around the garage, being an hour early for my appointment with RF28.
