442 map GS34 on 442 at Slough Bus Station

GS34 nears Slough Bus Stn on 14th May 2006 on a 442 journey.
The 442 headed north out of Slough on the Gerrards Cross road before turning left and winding through the fringes of Stoke Poges and across to Farnham Royal.

The garage workings, to and from Windsor Garage/Bus Station, were as 442s.

Allocation

The 442 had been a Cub route before the war, and had been operated by a Windsor STL (and then a 10T10) after the war. Windsor received a pair of new GSs from store in July 1954 to replace the older buses on routes 442 and 445. These were GS78 and another, (either GS77 or GS80 I think). GS78 and GS77 persisted until their overhauls in January 1959 and November 1958 respectively, after the 442 was withdrawn in October 1958, one of the victims of the post-strike cutbacks in service.

442 HE Hatters Lane - Hicks Farm Rise - Wycombe Marsh - High Wycombe Garage the other 442 map

The other 442 route was introduced to serve the growing Hicks Farm Estate at High Wycombe in October 1965.
High Wycombe received GS28 to operate it, but traffic was quickly enough to require an omo RF, and they duly took over in October 1967.

Allocation

GS28 was the regular bus, allocated to High Wycombe after overhaul in October 1965, and replaced by GS21 in November 1967, for three months.
