Let's be clear. The 421 was not a GS route. It had originated as a microbus route with West Kent Motor Services before the war, using tiny 14- and 20-seaters, and immediately after takeover in October 1939 London Transport had continued to use two of the diminutive Dennis 30cwt 14-seaters, now numbered D202 and D203, putting them into Dunton Green garage, until Leyland Cubs took over after several months.
But it became a large saloon route, with 10T10 Regals and then RFs in the 1950s: Otford was a growing village, as was the area between there and Sevenoaks. Even RTs were used, when there was trouble on the railway. Indeed, in May 1955 RTs took over as the normal mode of operation. But it was not unknown for a GS to be used if necessary, so this page is here for completeness.
